Where wind comes from
Wind is air in motion. It exists because the Sun heats the surface unevenly: where air warms it rises and pressure drops; where it cools it sinks and pressure rises.
Air flows from zones of high pressure to zones of low pressure, as water runs down a slope. The rotation of the Earth deflects that flow, which is why the planet's great winds blow in curves rather than straight lines.
